Dendrites
- Tiny branches that receive information from other neurons and transmit electrical stimulation to the soma
- Located at the beginning of a neuron
- Injuries, such as blows to the brain, can kill neurons, therefore killing dendrites, outright or slowly starve them of the oxygen and nutrients they need to survive
- Spinal cord injury can disturb communication between the brain and muscles, also killing neurons
- There are several different types of neurons, but they all are based on the same arrangement, with a main cell body that extends small branches called dendrites
