Thalamus
- Involved in many of the brain’s sensory signals and movement with other parts of the brain
- Receives these sensory signals and sends them to the cerebral cortex
- Controls sleep and awake states of consciousness
- Is a large, dual lobed collection of grey matter under the cerebral cortex
- Damage to the thalamus can result in numbness or tingling in the arms and legs
- Severe damage to the thalamus can result in paralysis, or coma
